Member Stories

 

Mr. F

Mr. F's dream was his own line of clothing designs, with a distinctive look and inspired to surprise and amuse.  He had bought the manufacturing equipment but there are so many other steps to creating a business. 

 

On joining the Dream Factory as a Member, he automatically had the ability to do business under our 'umbrella' of a registered, licensed and insured District of Columbia corporation with its Certified Business Enterprise status.  This avoided significant up front time and expense that were obstacles to realizing his dream.

Ms. H

Ms. H had a great business idea, automatically match suppliers to contracts and respond to more quote requests quicker than manual and spreadsheet systems.  

Dream Factory helped identify how the idea could be realized and found a reliable company to the develop the service.  Based on this approach, Ms. H was able to obtain grant funding to get her idea off the ground.

Ms. T

Ms. T's mission is to build her non-profit to reach more people in new ways.  Part of her vision is a digital platform for people of any age to learn about food geography and nutrition.  Not only would the platform help to educate families and children it would form the basis of sustained engagement supplemental income streams.

The Dream Factory helped scope the digital platform providing financial estimates for incorporation into a business plan.  The resulting grant request was succesful. 

Mr. G

Mr. G's dream is immersive competitions where users vote on content.  Realizing his dream required a sophisticated, state of the art, mobile web app

Dream Factory connected Mr. G with a design/creative/tech team that could be a one-stop shop for his needs.  Dream Factory remains involved on a daily basis in a project management role with the aim of helping him hit a key milestone - first revenues.

Ms. B

Ms. B's dream is to make her new art business succesful.  Having developed her own look she wanted to increase her exposure and sales.

The Dream Factory supported Ms. B with mentoring on various options for getting her work in front of buyers including both face-to-face events and online.  In addition, Dream Factory was instrumental in Ms. B obtaining access to the MadeinDC market without the need for expensive business registration and licensing.
